A Three-Day Naturalist Study Inside the Smokies
The Southern Appalachian Naturalist Certification Program (SANCP) – Mammals course is a residential three-day program at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont. Participants learn from professional naturalists about the bears, deer, elk, otters, foxes, and over 60 mammal species that call Great Smoky Mountains National Park home — through guided field studies, evening lectures, and cabin-style lodging.
A unique add-on to a Smith Creek Resort stay for serious naturalists, wildlife photographers, or wildlife biology students.
Who It’s For: Naturalists, wildlife photographers, biology students, and adults wanting an in-depth Smokies wildlife experience.
What to Expect: Daily guided field studies inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, evening lectures, residential lodging, group meals, and a SANCP certification credit on completion.
Do’s: Pre-register (sessions fill up), pack for outdoor weather, bring binoculars and a journal.
Don’ts: Don’t expect Wi-Fi or strong cell service. Don’t bring pets.
