Foothills Parkway—Tennessee’s Scenic Mountain Drive

The Ultimate Drive to Soak In Views, Nature & Peace Year-Round

Foothills Parkway is one of Tennessee’s most scenic drives, stretching along the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains and offering panoramic views that change beautifully with the seasons. Originally envisioned in the 1940s as a gateway route connecting the Smokies, the parkway remains a hidden gem—less crowded than other routes but just as captivating.

As you cruise along the parkway, you’ll pass sweeping overlooks, dramatic ridgelines, and lush forests that explode into brilliant colors in the fall. Whether you’re out for a leisurely drive, capturing photos, or just soaking in the views, every curve of the road reveals a new slice of Appalachian beauty. The drive is especially peaceful at sunrise or near sunset, with golden light casting stunning shadows across the mountains.

Foothills Parkway is ideal for families, couples, and solo travelers looking for a relaxing, scenic experience without the bustle of the national park. With easy access points near Townsend and Wears Valley, it’s a perfect detour on your Smoky Mountain adventure—whether you’re road-tripping or just out for a quiet escape.

What Guests Are Saying About the Attractions

We took a slow drive along Foothills Parkway during our fall trip and it was breathtaking. The overlooks were quiet, the views were unreal, and we even saw a few wild turkeys along the way. A perfect peaceful escape from the busier parts of the Smokies.
