Road Prong Trail
Waterfalls, Wild Streams & Untamed Smoky Mountain Beauty
A Quiet Trail of Waterfalls, Bridges & Smoky Mountain History
The Road Prong Trail offers a refreshing escape into the wild heart of the Smokies. It’s one of the park’s most scenic lesser-known trails—following the tumbling Road Prong Creek past a series of cascades, mossy rocks, and dense forest canopies.
The trail begins near Newfound Gap and descends steadily, crossing the creek multiple times via footbridges and stones. Along the way, you’ll find remnants of the old Indian Gap Road—once a key route for early travelers crossing the mountains. The final stretch connects with the Chimney Tops Trail junction, rewarding hikers with incredible natural views and a chance to extend their journey deeper into the park.
Short but invigorating, this trail embodies the rugged charm and peaceful rhythm of the Smokies’ mountain streams.
