The Great Smoky Mountain Hot Air Balloon Festival is one of the most photogenic events of the Smokies summer. Held at the Townsend Visitor Center, professional balloonists light up the evening sky with a stunning balloon glow and offer tethered rides against a breathtaking mountain sunset. The 2026 event also features live music, food trucks, craft vendors, a laser show, and a kids’ play area.

Do’s: Buy presale tickets and parking online, arrive in the late afternoon for the best balloon photos, and bring a camera.
Don’ts: Don’t bring outside coolers or alcohol. Don’t expect refunds on general admission if weather grounds the balloons.
